How to Care for Your Swimsuit
A little extra care goes a long way. Keep your favorite swimsuit ready for sun-filled days with a gentle routine that protects its fit, color, and beautiful details.
Always follow the care label on your swimsuit first.
Your three-step routine
After every swim, tick off each step as you go.
Rinse out the chlorine
Chlorine is tough on stretch fabric. Rinse your suit in cool, fresh water right after swimming, and avoid leaving it to soak.
Go easy on hot tubs
Hot, highly chlorinated water can be especially hard on swimwear. Limit long soaks and rinse promptly afterward.
Shake off sand and salt
Gently shake out sand, then rinse in fresh water to wash away salt before it dries into the fabric.
Mind sunscreen and rough spots
Let sunscreen absorb before you dress when you can, as some lotions, oils, and self-tanners can stain. Sit on a towel to prevent snags.
Never pack it damp
Don't leave a wet suit bundled in a bag or wrapped in a towel. Let it dry completely before you put it away.
Protect its shape
Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sun. Lay molded cups in their natural shape rather than folding or crushing them.
Care tips in detail
Wash gently by hand
If the care label permits, hand wash separately in cool water with a small amount of mild detergent suitable for delicates. Move the suit gently through the water, then rinse thoroughly. Avoid scrubbing, bleach, fabric softener, and harsh stain removers.
Skip the twist and wring
Press out excess water without twisting or wringing. Lay your suit on a clean towel and press lightly to absorb moisture. Handle molded cups, underwires, ties, and embellishments with care so they keep their shape.
Dry flat in the shade
Reshape your swimsuit and lay it flat to air dry somewhere shaded and well ventilated. Avoid tumble drying, ironing, radiators, and direct sunlight. Hanging a wet suit by its straps can stretch them.
Be mindful of sunscreen
Apply sunscreen as directed and let it absorb before putting on your swimsuit when possible. Some sunscreens, oils, and self-tanners can stain or discolor fabric.
Give your favorites a break
Let your swimsuit dry completely between wears, and rotate suits when you can so the fabric has time to recover.
Store it fresh and dry
Once completely dry, store your suit in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, with molded cups kept in their natural shape.
Rinse promptly. Wash gently. Dry naturally. A few thoughtful habits keep your swim favorites looking their best.
